Single-Point Liquid Level Switches

The first consideration when choosing a level switch is the temperature, pressure, and type of liquid to which the switch will be subjected. We supply liquid level switches in various styles, in a variety of materials, designed to cover a broad range of conditions. In order to help you select the proper liquid level switch material for your application, we have put together some basic recommendations for selecting a switch.

MATERIALS OPTIONS
Float Material
Application
Stainless Steel For high-temperature (up to 300°C), high-pressure (up to 300 PSIG) and corrosive conditions, stainless steel is ideal. It is commonly used in food processing, medical, heating, and cooling equipment.
Polypropylene For acidic conditions, such as those found in electroplating and metal cleaning, polypropylene is an excellent choice. It is another choice for lower-temperature (to 105°C) food processing applications (in our level switches we supply only polypropylene that is FDA-approved for food contact). Polypropylene is also a good choice for general-purpose applications in commercial or consumer appliances and equipment.
Buna-N (Nitrile) Buna-N is suitable for use with aromatic hydrocarbons, dilute acids, and bases, and has a temperature range of -50°C to 120°C. Common applications of Buna-N include fuel tanks, transmissions and hydraulic systems.
PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) PBT is a strong and highly crystalline plastic featuring good dimensional stability. It generally serves where temperature resistance and permeability are not important. It is ideal for applications such as fuel and hydraulic systems with continuous service at 120°C. PBT is not suitable for use in temperatures above 130°C.
Kynar Chemical- and solvent-resistant properties make this material a problem solver for many applications. Kynar's high purity is ideal for food handling and sensitive laboratory or test equipment with temperatures up to 105°C.
PTFE (Teflon®) This material is ideal for acids, alkalis, oils, and gasoline applications where temperatures are up to 260°C. Temperature-stable and chemical-resistant, PTFE has a very low coefficient of friction.

Stainless Steel Single-Point Liquid Level Switches

Full-Sized Switches — Select the best float material for your application. Stainless steel, polypropylene, and Buna-N floats are available.
Full-Sized Shielded Switches — Similar to our full-sized switches, these switches come with slosh shields to prevent undesirable operation due to turbulence and agitation.
Miniature Switches — Miniature float switches for applications where space is at a premium. Select from stainless steel, polypropylene, and Buna-N floats.
Side-Mounted Switches — These stainless steel float switches feature bent stems for mounting in areas where vertical space is at a premium.

Plastic Single-Point Liquid Level Switches

Full-Sized Plastic Switches — Select the model that best fits your chemical composition requirements. Models are available in combinations of polypropylene, Buna-N, and Kynar floats with polypropylene, PBT, CPVC, and Kynar stems.
Full-Sized Plastic Shielded Switches — Similar to our full-sized switches, these switches come with slosh shields to prevent undesirable operation due to turbulence and agitation.
Miniature Plastic Switches — Miniature float switches for applications where space is at a premium. Select from polypropylene, Buna-N, and Kynar floats and polypropylene, PBT, and Kynar stems.
Subminiature Plastic Switches — Subminiature switches are ideal for situations where miniature plastic switches are too large. Select from a variety of threading options and relay states. Models are available with stainless steel and polypropylene stems. Temperature sensors available on select models.
Side-Mounted Plastic Switches — These stainless steel float switches feature bent stems for mounting in areas where vertical space is at a premium. Select from polypropylene, PBT, and Kynar floats and stems.
