A Practical Guide to Flow Measurement
Reliable flow measurement begins with matching the instrument to the process. The fluid, expected flow range, connection type, temperature, and installation position all influence the choice.
Understand the fluid
Record whether the media is liquid or gas and note its viscosity, cleanliness, and temperature range. These properties help determine which measurement approach is appropriate.
Review the measurement range
Select an instrument that covers the normal operating range while still providing useful resolution at the lower end. Avoid choosing only from the maximum possible flow.
Plan the installation
Check connection sizes, straight-run requirements, available power, display or signal needs, and the space available for service. These checks reduce installation surprises.
